On December 1st, the gardening professor zhaobing gave us a speech on the features of the gardening in Suzhou.
He interpreted the meaning of the gardening in ancient China. Gardening has border and it's built based on the nature. There are many trees and rivers in the garden.
Then he described the features of the gardening in Suzhou. Suzhou gardening is called half-city-half-forest in Chinese meaning. It represents that Suzhou gardening has the beauty of nature and it's also had many man-made things in it. For instance, there are many beautiful trees and river was around the garden, people built bridges over the river and gateways to connect each part of the garden to make it more beautiful.
The Suzhou gardening is also full of the old history of China. The Changting for example the building was built in Song Dynasty near the river. There are many calligraphy and Chinese painting at that time inside of it. Another example, zhuozheng yuan was built in Ming Dynasty, we can contrast different types of buildings at different times in China.
Gardening is also full of the Chinese culture; an ancient famous old Chinese painter took part in designing and building Suzhou Garden and planted a tree by the river. We often said the Suzhou gardening is like the painting and painter is the symbol of the culture so we say it’s full of Chinese culture.
I thought Suzhou gardening is an old Chinese and we should learn from the gardening designer. We should bring the art to the nature and that would be a fine work of art.
